貨幣は見た。人の世のあさましさを。
人の手から手へ渡ってゆく百円紙幣<わたし>が、戦時下の日本を語るという斬新な視点から描かれた太宰治の短編。人の世に絶望し、疲れ果てた百円紙幣は貧しい母子に出会い、最後になにを見たのか。お金とは？ 欲望とは？ 人の尊さとは？ さて戦後の日本に希望の兆しは訪れたのでしょうか。
The wretched human world seen through money.
Osamu Dazai’s short story told from the unique perspective of a 100 yen note that passes from hand to hand during Japan’s wartime. The 100 yen note, despairing of the human world and exhausted, meets a poor mother and her child, and what does it see in the end? What is money? What is desire? What is human dignity? And are we to find any glimmer of hope in post-war Japan?
