Trolls in the Park 2011 | Connecting green and urban space

Ten Years of ‘Trolls in the Park’An interview with its organizers, Hiroko and Tatsuhiko Murata

The open air art exhibition "Trolls in the Park" has now reached its tenth year. Over the last ten years, the many works created by the artists' hands which appear for a limited period every year, have gradually settled in the memories of those visiting the park. Now met each year with eager anticipation, the event has firmly taken root here in Suginami and the Zempukuji community. However, in this commemorative year Eastern Japan was struck by an unparalleled disaster, and recovery is still far from sight.Turning thoughts to the next ten years of "Trolls" which has had the support of so many, we make a fresh start with a new "first step", holding firmly the idea that we will be able to bring about an even more successful exhibition. From the "green" of Zempukuji Park to the "urban" space of the community elementary school and local art space, we continue to blow art on a gentle wind, proposing not only to "connect green and urban space", but also hoping to create links between both present and future generations of Zempukuji residents.
